The T20 World Cup 2024 is around the corner and cricket fans around the world are waiting for the much-awaited clash between India and Pakistan on June 9 in New York. The two teams have not played any bilateral series for almost a decade due to political tensions and as a result, their matches in ICC tournaments hold a special place in the hearts of cricket fans. While anticipation for the match is at an all-time high, former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has alleged that tickets for the clash to be held at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York are being sold for around $20,000 (Rs 16.6 lakh). And he criticized the International Cricket Council (ICC) for hindering the promotion of the game.
surprised to know this @ICC Diamond Club tickets are being sold at $20,000 per seat. #indvspak Toilet game. WC in the US is for game expansion and fan engagement, not a means to make a profit on gate collections. It’s just $2750 for a ticket #notcricket #council of scoundrels pic.twitter.com/lSuDrxHGaO

“Shocked to know that ICC is selling Diamond Club tickets for #indvspak WC game at $20000 per seat. WC in the US is for game expansion and fan engagement, not a means to make a profit on gate collections. $2750 for a ticket, that’s just #notcricket #intlcouncilofcrooks,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Recently, there have been several reports stating that match tickets are being sold in the black market and on several websites, fans can purchase these tickets at prices much higher than their actual prices.
However, no official information has yet come from the ICC regarding the allegations.
India will begin their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 with a match against Ireland on June 5 and will take on Pakistan in the most high-profile Group A encounter on June 9 in New York.
