New Delhi:

Former legislator and social worker Jitender Singh Shunty on Wednesday recalled a pep talk from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Covid-19 pandemic phone call and revealed how these “words of appreciation” inspired him to do more social service.

Popular X account Modi Story shared a touching story of a social worker who received a call from Prime Minister Modi at 2:30 a.m. thanking him for his selfless work during the epidemic.

Sharing his experience during the pandemic times, Mr Sunti said the Simapuri crematorium receives hundreds of bodies almost every day. He was unable to return home for 21 days as the unclaimed body was being cremated.

He revealed that his neighbors used to object to his repeated visits to the crematorium because of the risk of bringing the virus into their homes.

Recalling the interesting incident, Mr Shunty said that when he was performing the last rites at 2.30 am, his driver told him: “Sir, there is a call for you and the caller said that he is Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Speech. ”

Mr Shunty told his driver: “My hands were dirty and you held the phone up to my ear.”

He said he was shocked and surprised to “hear voices on the other side.”

“Prime Minister Modi told me and I watched you on TV. You are cremating unclaimed bodies and it is a noble job. The entire country supports you. You should continue this work with determination.”
