New Delhi:
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today said 17 Indian workers who were lured to Laos for unsafe and illegal work were on their way back home.
He also commended the Indian Embassy in Laos for its successful efforts in the case.
“Modi’s assurance applies to everyone at home and abroad. 17 Indian workers who were lured to Laos for unsafe and illegal work are on their way back home,” he said in a post on X.
“Well done, @IndianEmbLaos. Thank you to the Lao authorities for their support in safe repatriation,” he added.
The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday warned Indian nationals not to fall prey to human traffickers who promise lucrative employment opportunities in Cambodia.
In an advisory, the ministry called on Indians to thoroughly check the background of prospective employers when looking for job opportunities in Southeast Asian countries.
“It has been noted that Indian nationals are falling into the trap of human traffickers, lured by false promises of lucrative employment opportunities in Cambodia,” the report said.
The ministry said the Indian nationals were “forced” to engage in online financial fraud and other illegal activities.
“Please note that Indian nationals intending to travel to Cambodia for employment can do so only through authorized agents. A thorough background check of prospective employers in Cambodia is also recommended,” it said.
