15 people drowned, 11 rescued after boat capsized in Pakistan during Eid holiday

At least 15 people celebrating Eid al-Fitr drowned on Thursday after their boat capsized in the Indus River in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, authorities said.

1122 Rescue officials said that the tragedy occurred in the Kund Park area of ​​Nowshera district. A large number of people gathered to celebrate Eid and drowned in the river at the junction of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces.

Officials said they rescued 11 people and were currently searching for the missing four.

Rescue teams from Nowshera, Swabi and Mardan are taking part in the search operation.

Governor Ghulam Ali and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed their deep sorrow and grief over the tragic incident.
