14 candidates will contest for 2 Arunachal Pradesh Lok Sabha seats

A total of 14 candidates are in the fray for two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh after the nomination withdrawal period ended on Saturday, an election official said.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pawan Kumar Sain said at a press conference here that eight candidates will contest from Arunachal West Assembly constituency, earth sciences and food Union Processing Minister Kiren Rijiju is seeking re-election in the constituency.

Former chief minister and state assembly chairman Nabam Tuki will also join first-time candidate Toko Sheetal of the Gana Suraksha Party and five independents Run for this seat.

A total of six candidates are vying for the Arunachal East seat. The CEO said they include sitting MP Tapir Gau, Congress Party’s Bosiram Siram, Arunachal DMK’s Bandey Mili ) and three independent candidates.

Pawan Kumar Sain, however, could not provide reports for assembly constituencies as data for many districts is not available so far.

The northeastern state, which has 60 assembly seats, will go to polls on April 19 at the same time as the Lok Sabha elections.

The CEO said that 55 companies of central paramilitary forces have been deployed in the state to ensure free and fair elections.

Apart from this, the state’s police force will also be deployed for election duties, he added.
