YouTube Premium expands global reach, launching in 10 more countries

YouTube Premium has expanded to ten new countries. The popular video streaming giant’s paid plans are already available in many regions, but Google has now expanded it further, bringing the total number of countries where subscriptions are available to purchase to 100. In addition to the basic subscription package, the tech giant is also launching more affordable student plans in all additional countries. It is worth noting that this expansion comes after the number of YouTube Premium subscribers exceeded 100 million in February 2024, nine years after YouTube first launched a paid package.

According to the report, all ten countries will get YouTube Premium’s Family and Student plans as well as the Basic Individual plan, giving them the opportunity to get a subscription at a discounted price. Student plans are available to full-time students at higher education institutions. However, their student status is verified annually by a third-party verification service. Family subscription allows users to add up to 5 family members aged 13 or older to a Google Family Group and enjoy the benefits of a single subscription at a slightly higher price than the individual plan.

With a YouTube Premium subscription, users get unlimited ad-free videos, the option to download videos and play them offline, and background playback via picture-in-picture mode, among other features. It also comes bundled with a YouTube Music subscription.

In India, YouTube Premium subscription Prices start at Rs. $129 per month with recurring payments enabled, and comes with a two-month free trial. Prepaid subscription starts at Rs. 139 a month. The family plan is priced at Rs. 189 per month, while the student plan is priced at Rs 189. 79 a month. Both plans offer a one-month free trial.
