Clarisa Figueroa, a woman from Chicago, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for a gruesome crime she committed in 2019.
She pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, who was nine months pregnant at the time.
The crime occurred on April 23, 2019, when Figueroa, with the help of her daughter Desiree, lured Ochoa-Lopez to their home with the promise of free baby clothes. They then strangled the young woman and cut her child from her womb.
Clarissa Figueroa hatched a murder plot after her adult son died of natural causes, leading to her desperate search for her newborn. She even pretended to be pregnant by posting photos of her ultrasound and baby’s room on her Facebook page.
“She was giving away clothes, supposedly pretending that her daughters were getting clothes and they all had these extra boy clothes,” said Cicilia Garcia, a spokesperson for the family.
Desiree Figueroa admitted her role in the crime, agreed to testify against her mother, and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
After the incident, Clarissa Figueroa called 911 and falsely claimed she had given birth, but the baby was not breathing. The baby, Yovanny Jadiel Lopez, was taken to a hospital, but suspicions arose, leading to a DNA test.
Tests confirmed the baby was Ochoa Lopez’s child. The baby died in June 2019.
Clarissa Figueroa’s boyfriend, Peter Bobak, also participated in the crime while cleaning up the scene. He was sentenced to four years in prison for perverting the course of justice and is now on parole.
