A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 10-year-old girl was found dead at a property in the West Midlands, police said.

Police attended an address in Robin Close in Regis, Rowley, about 12.10pm on Monday and found the child injured. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Midlands Police said a woman known to the girl had been arrested and detained for questioning.

Chief Dan Jarratt said there would be a police presence around the area, adding: “A young girl has tragically lost her life and our thoughts are with her loved ones and all those affected by this horrific loss.”

“We know how shocking and distressing this is for the community and we will continue to have a police presence and provide support to the area over the coming days.

“A suspect has been arrested and detectives are fully investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic death.”

West Midlands Police added that they were in the early stages of their investigation and a cordon was in place while inquiries continued.
