Will teach 'strong' lesson if piracy is attempted in Indian Ocean: Navy Chief

The Navy Chief said that a large number of ships are deployed in the Indian Ocean region.

Pune:

Admiral R Hari Kumar on Monday said the Indian Navy will not allow safety and security in the Indian Ocean region to be disrupted and will teach a “very stern” lesson if piracy is attempted.

He said a large number of ships are deployed in the IOR, while three to four ships are off Somalia.

The Navy chief said the Indian Navy is also conducting anti-drone operations in the North Arabian Sea and Red Sea for the safety of Indians and others in distress.

He was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a manufacturing plant of Nibe Defense and Aerospace at Chakan in Pune district.

Admiral Hari Kumar stressed that whether it is a boat, dhow or any ship, if the Indian Navy finds any trigger of piracy, strict action is being taken.

Responding to a question, the top Naval Commander said that the Indian Navy works closely with the navies of friendly countries to combat piracy in the Indian Ocean region.

“Right now, we receive information through large-scale exchanges. We are the largest resident naval power in the Indian Ocean region and we do not allow anyone to disrupt the security, stability and security in the region,” the Navy chief said. Will not allow.”

He said that a large number of ships are deployed in the IOR.

“We have said that piracy is not going to happen and we are going to teach a very strong lesson to anyone who tries to do piracy,” the Navy chief said.

He said, the Anti-Piracy Act, 2022 has strengthened the hands of the Navy to deal with this issue and enabled it to perform its duty in a better way.

“The Indian Navy is also conducting anti-drone operations in the North Arabian Sea and Red Sea for the safety of Indians and other people in distress. It is our job to help people in distress, irrespective of nationalities,” the Navy chief said.

Asked about the Indian Navy rescuing some Pakistani crew from attempted piracy, he said, “At sea, whoever is in distress, we have to help. So, we do not hesitate and we rescued them from the pirates.” Saved. They were taken away.” Held hostage by pirates. So, our commander went and, you know, got them released.”

Notably, Indian warship INS Sumitra had rescued 19 Pakistani crew of a fishing vessel after an Iranian-flagged fishing vessel was attacked by pirates off the east coast of Somalia last month.
