The buzz surrounding artificial intelligence and its potential impact on employment has stoked fear and unease in the tech world. However, amid reports of layoffs due to the integration of automation and artificial intelligence, a senior Amazon executive has stepped forward to clarify the view that robots and technology are job killers.

Stefano La Rovere, global director of robotics, mechatronics and sustainable packaging at Amazon, asserted in a statement interview This week CNBC said the belief that technology will replace jobs is unfounded.

This sentiment echoes those expressed by industry leaders such as Google CEO Sundar Pichai and OpenAI CEO.

A challenging perspective on job displacement

Despite Amazon’s stance on the positive impact of technology, dissenting voices continue to raise concerns. In November 2023, Goldman Sachs predicted that the popularity of artificial intelligence will cause more than 300 million jobs to be lost or severely affected. Key industries expected to bear the brunt of this technological shift include legal, sales, design, office management, architecture, engineering, commercial and financial operations, and more.

While debate continues about the impact of artificial intelligence, Amazon remains convinced that technology is a catalyst for job creation and career advancement, rather than a threat to traditional employment models.
