Why doesn’t China protect Red Sea shipping?

On Monday, another commercial ship was hit by a Houthi missile in the Gulf of Aden, causing damage. As Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen continue to attack international shipping lanes in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, a coalition of about two dozen countries, including the United States and Britain, has been working to secure those waters. But it is worth noting that China is not present in the alliance, although about 40% of trade between Europe and Asia passes through the region. VOA’s Kara Barb has more from the Pentagon.
