Indian dancer Amarnath Ghosh has been shot dead in the US, his friend and TV actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee said on Friday.

Seeking help from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, Mr Bhattacharjee said he was shot “multiple times” while he was taking an evening walk in the city of St Louis, Missouri on Tuesday.

“My friend Amarnath Ghosh was shot dead in the Academy neighborhood of St. Louis, USA on Tuesday evening. The mother, the only child in the family, died 3 years ago. Father died in his childhood. Well, the reason is, the details of the accused have not been revealed yet or perhaps there is no one left in his family to fight for it except a few of his friends,” she wrote.

He said, “Some friends in the US are trying to claim the body, but there is no update about it yet. If you can, please contact the Indian Embassy in the US. At least we will get information about his murder.” The reason must be known.”

Who was Amarnath Ghosh?

Amarnath Ghosh was a resident of Kolkata. He was a professional Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi dancer.

– Mr. Ghosh was following a MFA in Dance at Washington University in St. Louis.

– Exponent of four dance styles, Shri Ghosh was an alumnus of Kalakshetra Academy in Chennai,

– Shri Ghosh was a recipient of the National Scholarship for Kuchipudi from the International Ministry of Culture. He was trained under Bobita De Sarkar, Sri MV Narasimhachari and Padma Sri Adyar K Lakshman.

According to Devoleena Bhattacharjee’s post, Mr. Ghosh was the only child in the family. His mother died three years ago, while Mr Ghosh lost his father in his childhood.
