The letter added that there was “no legitimate interest or public need for this information other than to stalk, harass and exert domination and control”.

Sweeney, who grew up in suburban Orlando, came to the attention of Elon Musk by tracking his plane travels online.

He reportedly used public data from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and broadcast aircraft signals to track the jet usage of public figures and measure their carbon footprints.

Taylor Swift’s lawyer, meanwhile, said if Mr Sweeney continued to post information tracking her plane travels, “she would have no choice but to pursue any available legal remedies”.

according to a report CNNIn her letter, Ms. Morrone accused Mr. Sweeney of disregarding the public safety of others “in exchange for public attention and/or soliciting financial gain.”

The letter even mentions Elon Musk offering Mr Sweeney $5,000 to delete a Twitter account tracking his plane.

Responding to the letter, the 21-year-old said his actions were not intended to cause any harm and noted that he was gathering “public information.”

He added, “I actually think Swift has some good songs,” the college student said. “I believe in transparency and public information.”
