When Supreme Court lawyers join forces to save 7-year-old's life

New Delhi:

In a touching story, a seven-year-old girl’s life was saved thanks to the collective efforts of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

A Supreme Court lawyer’s daughter was diagnosed with Fanconi anemia and needed a bone marrow transplant. The cost of her treatment at a private hospital in Delhi is estimated to be Rs 33 lakh. However, her father could only scrape together 1.3 million rupees to pay for her medical expenses, leaving a huge financial gap.

Faced with this dire situation, the father approached the Supreme Court Bar Association for help. Lawyer secretary Rohit Pandey and joint secretary Meenesh Dubey responded quickly and took the lead in organizing support. Senior lawyers such as Chandra Uday Singh, Raj Shekhar Rao, Paras Kuhad, Guru Krishna Kumar, Sonia Mathur and Narendra Hooda came forward and jointly donated around Rs 5 lakh to the cause. Despite this donation, there is still a shortfall of Rs 15 lakh.

Meenesh Dubey was determined to bridge the financial gap and sought help from senior lawyer Harish Salve. Upon learning of the urgent need, Mr. Salvi immediately pledged Rs 1.5 million for treatment. He transferred the funds the next day, ensuring the girl’s treatment could begin immediately. This quick and generous act brought hope and relief to the family and marked the success of their efforts to save their child’s life.

Reflecting on the compassionate response, Minesh Dube highlighted his father’s struggles as a first-generation lawyer unable to afford the full cost of treatment. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Bar Association rallied behind him and worked tirelessly to secure the necessary funding.
