WhatsApp has been aggressively rolling out a slew of new features to improve user experience, with a major focus on expanding its channels functionality. However, recent developments suggest that the Meta-owned chat app is extending its focus to other segments as well.

According to WABetaInfo, a source of new WhatsApp features, the messaging platform is currently improving the user interface of its status update tab, as seen in WhatsApp Beta version 2.24.4.23 in the Google Play Beta program.

This upcoming update is designed to improve the accessibility of status updates. Status updates that currently sit at the top of the Updates tab will transition, allowing users to share updates via thumbnail previews without having to open them to reveal their content.

The new design features a card-like user interface that is reminiscent of the interface found in Facebook’s mobile app.

Once fully implemented, these updated status displays will replace the current circle style updates. Additionally, the update brings WhatsApp’s design language in line with Meta’s other products, such as Facebook.

It’s worth noting that this change is still under development and is expected to be included in a future version of the app. Even if users install the latest beta version, they will not observe these changes.

In related news, WhatsApp is ramping up spam protection by allowing users to block users right from the lock screen. This helps you avoid various submenus and the unnecessary hassle of finding and opening a chat, saving the time it takes to block someone.
