WhatsApp launches new chat filters to discover unread messages

WhatsApp is rolling out new chat filters to keep messages organized. With the new update, users can easily find their most important conversations without having to scroll through the entire list of chats. WhatsApp’s chat filter feature works similarly to Google’s Gmail and offers three filter options to browse messages more efficiently. They will appear at the top of the chat list. Chat filters are now available and all WhatsApp users are expected to receive them in the coming weeks.

Meta’s instant messaging app WhatsApp goes online on Tuesday (April 16) Announce Start chat filter by blog post. This new feature is designed to make it easier for users to view all unread chats at once. As mentioned earlier, the update allows users to choose from three different filters – All, Unread, and Group. These options will appear at the top of the chat list.

“All” is the default view, and “Unread” displays messages that have been marked unread by the user or have not yet been opened. Clicking on a group will display the group chat and community subgroups.

Chat filters will be a handy feature for those WhatsApp users who find it difficult to reply to unread messages from multiple senders. The WhatsApp confirmation filtering option is rolling out and will be available to all users in the coming weeks. This update was previously spotted in the WhatsApp beta version on Android 2.22.16.14. Gmail rolled out a similar feature in 2020.

WhatsApp’s new chat filters are part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to improve user experience on the platform. The social media giant launched Pinned Messages in early December to highlight specific messages in any ongoing one-on-one and group conversations. It also brings “view once” option for voice messages. Likewise, earlier this year, it launched a new bottom navigation bar on Android.
