Beijing:
China said on Monday it would seek to strengthen ties with the Maldives after pro-Beijing President Mohamed Muizu’s party won control of parliament in a landslide. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that China is willing to work with Malaysia to maintain traditional friendship and expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
He said that Beijing’s purpose is to “continuously deepen the China-Malaysia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership” and “accelerate the construction of a community with a shared future for China and Malaysia to better benefit the two peoples.”
Wang Yi said that we congratulate the Maldives on its successful parliamentary election and fully respect the choice of the Maldivian people.
Provisional results from the Maldives Election Commission showed Muizou’s People’s National Congress (PNC) won more than two-thirds of the seats in the 93-member parliament.
