What happened?

F-7 BGI Jet, a version of a Chinese fighter, crashed in the milestone and college premises in the Uttara neighborhood of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

According to a military and a fire fighting officer, at least 19 people, including a pilot, have been killed. More than 160 people have been injured.

Officials described the aircraft as a training aircraft. The army said that Jet left local time at 1:06 pm and crashed immediately, caught fire immediately. The reason was not immediately clear.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Where did this happen?

The accident occurred in a school, milestone complex with some 2,000 students. It describes itself as an experience of over two decades as a major private educational institution.

Rafiq Taha, a student who was not present at the time of the accident, called The Associated Press by phone that the school provides classes from primary to twelfth grade.

The school says it focuses on extra curricular activities, career counseling and “global opportunities”.

Uttara is in the neighborhood northern Dhaka, a metropolitan area of over 20 million people.

Who are the victims?

Details are still emerging. Officials have said that the pilot is among the dead.

Local media reports stated that many out of 160 were injured students who were in the campus for the afternoon classes.
