Peel Public Health has first confirmed mosquitoes to conduct positive tests for the West Nile virus in the region this year.
Officials say the infected mosquitoes were collected from a trap located near the Airport Road and Dairy Road East in Mississawga. Discovery has the onset of West Nile Activity for the 2025 season in Peel, including Mississaga, Brampton, and Calledon.
Peel Public Health operates a 33 mosquito net in the entire region, with a weekly trial from mid -June to mid -June.

To reduce the mosquito population, the peel region catches the basin and stable water sources with larvicides in the summer months.

Health officers also recommend using insect disturbances with DEET or Icaridin, wearing long sleeves and pants during peak mosquito hours (evening and morning), and ensure that the window screen is intact.
