A 15-year-old boy has died after a stabbing at a shopping center in West Bromwich.

According to West Midlands Police, emergency services were called to New Square shopping center in the center of the town just after 9.15pm on Sunday.

But despite the best efforts of medical staff, the teenager did not survive.

Police said Monday that his family has been notified and detectives have launched a murder investigation.

Police said their investigation was still in the early stages and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Laura Harrison, of the police’s homicide squad, said: “It is tragic that another young life has been lost as a result of knife crime. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends.

“Our investigation is at an early stage but our detectives are working hard to identify those responsible and bring them into custody as quickly as possible.

“We will be following a multifaceted investigation but we also need people to come forward with information.

“We will be stepping up patrols and providing reassurance to the community over the coming days.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 (quoting log 3772 of April 7) or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
