An incident involving a run-out in the Oman D10 competition has gone viral on social media and has sparked a huge debate on run-out laws among cricket fans. During the Oman D10 match between Ghubra Giants and Ruwi Rangers, Barathawaj Vinayagam was run out due to a direct hit by Rangers cricketer Afalal Kariyappar. Kariappar collected the ball well and made a no-look throw to dismiss the batsman and received much praise from both his teammates and commentators. However, some fans on social media believe that it was ‘fake fielding’ and the run-out attempt should not have counted.

Know what the rules of cricket say –

Law 41.5.1It states that “It is unfair for any fielder to knowingly, by word or action, attempt to distract, deceive or obstruct the batsman after the ball has been received by the striker”.

However, the umpires deemed the dismissal valid and Ruwi Rangers went on to defeat Ghubrah Giants by 57 runs in the match.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians’ playoff dreams in IPL 2024 suffered a major blow as the Hardik Pandya-led side lost against Rajasthan Royals by nine wickets.

“We got ourselves into trouble early on. The way Tilak and Nehal batted – it was brilliant. I don’t think we would have even got to 180 when we lost a few wickets early We couldn’t finish well and that’s why we had to keep it inside the stumps (while bowling), we gave too much width and I don’t think that was the case. “We had our best day ever,” she said.

“Overall, we didn’t put the right foot on the park and ultimately they outplayed us. After the game, it’s not the right time to go after the players, everyone is professional, they know their roles.”

“What we can do is learn from this game and correct the mistakes we made and make sure we don’t make them again. Progress is very important. Within the team, individually, we have to accept our flaws. I don’t believe much in chip and chop, I like to support the players and our focus will always be on playing good cricket, sticking to our plans and making sure we don’t make fundamental mistakes. “It’s simple, as long as we keep it simple, it’s good,” Hardik said after the match.
