VU campus a living lab for innovative technologies | Pune News – Times of India

PUNE: The cornerstone of Vishwakarma University is its unique model which emphasizes intertwined objectives — innovate, integrate, and educate.
This framework encourages students and faculty to innovate solutions to real-world problems working along with the industry. This learning from the integration of theory and practical is brought to classes as new paradigms to educate students.
The underlying principle is to create a knowledge enterprise that will attract the best talent pool of students, faculty, professionals, and researchers. The academic talent working in collaboration with industry, social businesses, society, and the government creates value and adds to the capital of applied knowledge.
The industry-on-campus initiative has enabled industries to participate in this process through transdisciplinary centres of excellence established by VU. The campus is a “living lab” to test innovative technologies in an operationally controlled environment.
VU embarked on the transdisciplinary centres of excellence since its inception. These centres that were established before NEP, have become platforms for translational research opportunities for faculty and students.
At our university a minor programme was initiated wherein students could opt for a minor track (of about 18 to 20 credits) spread over three to four semesters offered by the respective faculty. The students are encouraged to select a minor track other than their major (core discipline) for multidisciplinary exposure.
We have integrated courses from the industries such as TCSion, IBM while the VU centre for communication development encourages students to work on the concept of empowerment communication. We have started a series of expert sessions on emerging technologies such as nano, bio, information technology, and cognitive science and their interplay.
The university has a four-year degree programme with Honours and research options wherein industry projects and internships are embedded in the honours programme. Students can deposit their credits in the academic bank.
International exposure and experience along with international faculty representation to teach students, a large basket of open electives at the university level, and various technical and soft skill courses right from the first semester provide students with a wide canvas for studies. Students have the flexibility to earn and stack credits.
The university offers multidisciplinary combination of AI, computer and psychology, economics, and music. We have commerce and management confluence with data science, management confluence with financial technology, and statistics confluence with data science and health care.
