Virender Sehwag is one of those few stars who never shy away from saying ‘spade, spade’. In a recent conversation he revealed how an English broadcaster had turned down his request to include him in their panel. He revealed this while talking to Australian cricket great Adam Gilchrist. Famous broadcaster Sky Sports wanted to include Sehwag on its panel, but the business deal turned into a farcical conversation after the former Indian opener revealed how much he would charge.

“So one time I got a call from Sky Sports saying ‘We’d love to have you on our panel’. I said, ‘But you can’t afford me.’ But he said, ‘No, tell me your price’.” Sehwag said on Club Prairie Fire Podcast.

“I said ‘you can’t afford me’ but they said ‘please tell us the price’. Then I said ok ‘GBP 10,000 per day’ and they said ‘yes you are right we can’t’,” Sehwag he said .

During the same conversation, Sehwag also revealed that he was once offered $100,000 by a BBL franchise, but he turned down the offer.

The conversation started when Gilchrist asked Sehwag if Indian players would ever play in the Big Bash League. Sehwag jokingly said that there was no need for this as Indian cricketers have a lot of money.

Adam Gilchrist: Do you see a time when Indian players will ever be able to go and play in other T20 leagues?

Virender Sehwag: “No, no need. We are rich people, we don’t go to poor countries (laughs)”.
