Five people have been arrested as a result of intense violence in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, following the demolition of an illegally built madrasa amid an anti-encroachment drive. Curfew was lifted on Saturday in outlying areas of the violence-hit Uttarakhand town, but it remained in force in Bambolpura area, which witnessed arson and vandalism by mobs over the demolition of religious schools.

A curfew was imposed on Thursday after violence broke out in Haldwani district after six rioters were killed.

Talking about the latest developments related to the violence, Nainital senior police officer Prahlad Narayan Meena said, “Based on the evidence and CCTV footage collected during the investigation, we have Five people were arrested… We will arrest others involved soon.”

The accused behind the incident were taken to Kotwali police station on Saturday.

  • Residents of Banborpura area, where curfew remains in place, are allowed to buy essential goods from time to time.
  • “Patrol patrols are ongoing in the affected areas and the situation is under control,” said AP Anshuman, deputy director general of police, law and order. PTI.
