Video shows poor maintenance of Ayodhya railway station, sanitation contractor fined

The video showed trash on the floor and an overflowing trash can.

A video of the newly opened Ayodhya Dham railway station being poorly maintained has gone viral on social media, prompting the Railways to impose a hefty fine on the station’s sanitation contractor. User @reality5473 shared three clips on X (formerly Twitter) showing the poor condition of the train station, which was built last year and is a three-story building with new facilities. The video showed trash on the floor and an overflowing trash can.

The first video showed people sleeping outside the station and rubbish being thrown out of bins. The person who made the video also pointed out that there was no cleaning done on the streets.

The second clip shows rubbish being thrown into different locations within the station. He even showed paan stains on the floor.

In a third shot, the user shows off trash lying on the ground. He also showed the construction status of the second phase of the railway station.

Soon after the video took the internet by storm, DRM Lucknow NR informed that it had imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the sanitation contractor of the station.

“Today, the sanitation contractor of Ayodhya Dham station was fined INR 50,000 for non-compliance. Also, below are some pictures of the cleaning station taken at 18:00,” DRM Lucknow tweeted with a video and pictures of cleanliness train station.

Images show the station being cleared. Trash that had accumulated throughout the site appeared to have been removed.

DRM Lucknow’s post drew a strong reaction from social media users, who lashed out at travelers and praised Indian Railways for taking immediate action.

“Good job, guys. But this shouldn’t be a one-time thing. Cleaning should be natural and permanent,” one user wrote. “Don’t see trash cans anywhere? Dry and wet trash cans should be separated to raise public awareness. The authorities and contractors have the same responsibility and cannot shirk their responsibilities. The public must also learn the sense of citizen ownership and maintain a good sense of citizenship.” Things are very clean ,” said another.

“Sir, please get some volunteers to educate people on cleanliness,” suggested a third.
