Chicago police fired nearly 100 shots at an officer in 41 seconds, killing one and injuring another. The incident occurred on March 21 this year at a traffic light near Humboldt Park in the city’s West End, when police officers surrounded an SUV after noticing the driver was not wearing a seat belt.

Video of the incident, which was widely shared on social media, shows five police officers firing into the car.

The driver, Dexter Reed, 26, died in the attack. According to the Associated Press, preliminary evidence shows that Reed fired first after being asked to get out of the car. The attack left one officer injured.

Four other police officers then returned fire, firing a total of 96 rounds.

Body camera footage of the incident shows officers continuing to fire even after Reed exited the vehicle and fell to the ground.

The video shows Reed getting out of the car and falling to the ground, face down with his head near the rear passenger wheel and wearing only one shoe.

Footage of the car also showed dozens of bullet holes.

“Don’t move! Don’t move!” the officer can be heard screaming at Reed, who puts his hands up looking for his gun. However, they could not find the weapons.

“I don’t know where the gun is,” one officer said. They then used a flashlight to look inside the vehicle and found the weapon on the passenger seat.

Meanwhile, the victims’ families have questioned authorities’ account of the shooting and called for an investigation into the incident.
