Baharrampur:
A group of unidentified youths “blocked” Congress president Adil Ranjan Chaudhry’s car in Baharrampur, his Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal on Saturday and shouted slogans of “go back” .
Mr. Chaudhry, who is seeking re-election from the constituency, holds the Trinamool Congress responsible and claimed it was a practice started by the state’s ruling party during last year’s civic polls.
“This is nothing but a tactic to stop me. The local TMC is behind it. They want people not to work for the Congress. This is the same as what they did in the civic polls last year,” Chaudhary told reporters.
The Congress leader in the Lok Sabha claimed that a group of “drunken” youths came in front of the vehicle as he was returning home from campaigning in the afternoon.
“They shouted: Go back, go back!! I stopped and asked them what they had complained about. At first there was only one person, then several more people joined him. I realized it was organized by the TMC. But they couldn’t do it in this way Way to stop me,” he said.
Chaudhry said he had informed the district police inspector general of the matter and sought his intervention.
The Trinamool responded to the Congress leader’s allegations, saying it was purely a “hooliganism” by Mr Chaudhry.
“Your atrocities in Baharrampur will not go unnoticed. Your fear of losing the election is evident from your actions. But using force to intimidate our workers will not help you in any way!” the party said on X, and tagged the video of the incident.
