Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has written to engineer-turned-philanthropist Sudha Murty to congratulate her on her nomination to the Federal Academy of Sciences.

Mr Dankar, who is the ex-officio president of the House of Lords, is confident that Muti will effectively utilize her cross-cultural experience in the hallowed halls of democracy.

“Congratulations on your nomination to the Council of State, which reflects a strong belief and confidence in your spirit of public service. I wish you success in this constitutional duty. I am confident that you will use this opportunity to effectively utilize your cross-cultural experience in The sacred precincts of the temple of democracy,” Mr Dankar said in the letter.

“I look forward to working with you and leveraging your wealth of knowledge and domain expertise to guide the legislative process through helpful debate, discussion and deliberation. May your term be characterized by growth, progress and memorable experiences that embody Discipline and etiquette worthy of imitation and admiration,” he added.

Ms. Muti, 73, was sworn in as a member of the Federal House of Representatives on March 14.

The former chairman of Infosys Foundation and author of several books, mainly for children, was nominated to the Bundestag on International Women’s Day.

She is also known for her contribution to Kannada and English literature and is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar, Padma Shri (2006) and Padma Bhushan (2023).

Ms. Murty, the first woman engineer to work with TELCO, is known to have provided her husband NR Narayana Murthy with seed capital of Rs 10,000 from her own emergency funds to start Infosys, which is now valued at over $180 billion.

Her daughter Akshata is married to British Prime Minister Rishi Suna
