A Varanasi court on Thursday set February 28 as the hearing date for the Gianwapi Mosque Committee over the recent permission to hold prayers in the mosque’s cellar, Hindu lawyers said.

The Varanasi district court ruled on January 31 that priests can offer prayers in front of the idol in the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque.

The mosque committee filed a court case challenging the verdict.

Defense lawyer MM Yadav said district judge Anil Kumar has fixed February 28 for hearing.

The mosque committee also filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court against the district court’s verdict.

Earlier in the day, in the Allahabad High Court, Justice Rohit Ranjan Agrawal heard the case filed by the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee in charge of the affairs of the mosque near Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. appeal and the order of the Commission was reserved. SFA Naqvi said.
