Three out of four northbound lanes motorway are closed, leaving drivers stranded with delays of more than an hour.
Traffic jams up to five miles have been reported on national highways, with delays expected to last until the afternoon.
The incident occurred after the collision between Junction 6 worcester and Junction 5 Wychbold, while recovery teams are en route to the scene.
Shortly before 8am he shared on social media: “Three lanes (of 4) are closed on the northbound M5 between J6 (Worcester) and J5 (Wychbold) following a collision which resulted in an overturned van.
“Recovery is on the way to the scene.
“There is now about 5 miles of congestion along the route, causing delays of over 60 minutes.”
The traffic situation is expected to return to normal between 12.45 pm and 1 pm.
The M5 is a major motorway that runs from the Midlands to the south-west, starting near Birmingham and ending in Exeter, Devon.
The incident comes after a lorry crashed through the central reservation of the M54 just before midnight on Tuesday, with subsequent collisions involving “multiple vehicles”.
Traffic was halted on the westbound carriageway between junctions two and three, with emergency services in attendance while repairs were made to repair the damaged barrier.
Four people were evaluated by ambulance crews, while two people were treated for non-serious injuries and taken to hospital.
National Highways West Midlands said “extensive barrier damage” meant one lane remained closed until 5.30pm on Wednesday.
