Uttarakhand Gurugram Murder Case: Case against 5 persons, including retired bureaucrat

Rudrapur, Uttarakhand:

Five persons, including a retired IAS officer, have been booked for allegedly killing dera kar seva, chief of Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, police said today.

Baba Tarsem Singh was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle inside the shrine on Thursday.

Those named in the FIR include two attackers – Sarabjit Singh and Amarjeet Singh – Indian Aviation Society (IAS) officer Harbans Singh Harbans Singh Chugh, Head of Nanakmatta Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Baba Anup Singh and Pritam Singh Sandhu, Sikh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjunath TC, vice-president of the district organization said.

He said the FIR was lodged on Friday.

Sarabjit Singh is a resident of Tarn Taran in Punjab, while Amarjeet Singh hails from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. The police officer said that a case has been registered under sections 302 (murder), 120b (conspiracy to commit crime) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Three others, including a retired IAS officer, have been named in the FIR as the complainants raised doubts about their role, the SSP said.

The dera kar seva chief of Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara was sitting on a chair and was shot with a rifle by gunmen sitting in the back seat. Baba Tarsem Singh was rushed to a hospital in Katima, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

About 50 km from Rudrapur, Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara is a revered Sikh shrine located on the Rudrapur-Tanakpur route in Udham Singh Nagar district of the state.
