US ‘strongly opposes’ China’s claim to Arunachal Pradesh

The U.S. government recognizes Arunachal Pradesh as part of India and “strongly opposes” any unilateral attempts to advance territorial claims in the northeastern Indian state that borders China, the State Department said on Wednesday.

The U.S. official’s statement came three days after Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Colonel Zhang Xiaogang said Beijing “never recognizes and firmly opposes” the “so-called Arunachal state illegally established by India.”
