Notably, Ms. Zhao, a Harvard University graduate who lives in Austin, is the chairman and CEO of her family’s shipping business, Foremost Group. She is also the sister of former Trump administration Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, whose husband is Mitch McConnell. When McConnell announced his resignation as Senate minority leader last month, he cited the tragedy’s impact on his family as a factor in his decision.
