Sri Lanka made a significant improvement in the World Test Championship rankings with a 328-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Sri Lanka used an all-round performance to defeat the hosts in the first Test match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Their resounding victory in Sylhet marked their eighth away Test victory over the hosts, ensuring Sri Lanka’s perfect record remains intact and they are yet to taste defeat in a Test match in Bangladesh taste.
Before this result, Sri Lanka were at the bottom of the WTC standings with 0 points, while Bangladesh were fourth on 50 points with 12 points after two games.
After the win, Sri Lanka has scored 12 points from three games with a scoring rate of 33.33, ahead of South Africa (25%) and England (17.50%) and tied for sixth place with Bangladesh.
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have the same score (12) and the same score percentage (33.33).
The victory in the first Test resulted in some changes in the points table, with the West Indies moving up to fifth place, having scored the same percentage of runs as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh but with a higher score (16).
With a scoring rate of 36.66, Pakistan ranks fourth with 22 points.
Going into the fourth day of play, Mominul Haque showed grit throughout the day and struggled mightily against Sri Lanka’s lethal bowling line-up.
His composure with the bat kept Sri Lanka’s bowlers in trouble and helped Bangladesh survive the first session. But the wickets kept tumbling at the other end, which restricted Bangladesh to 182 runs and lost by 328 runs in the first Test.
