Lucknow:

The Uttar Pradesh transport department has formulated a new strategy to reduce the number of road accidents.

Transport Commissioner Chandra Bhushan Singh has appealed to drivers of all commercial vehicles and state-run buses to keep family photos on their dashboards.

Transport Chief Minister L. Venkateshwar Lu said on Wednesday that the idea of displaying family photos was adopted from Andhra Pradesh.

He said the innovation of showing family photos in front of drivers was aimed at developing emotional sensitivity about road safety.

“It will constantly remind drivers to pay attention to their families and encourage them to drive safely,” the person in charge said.

The commissioner said this measure has been successful in reducing road accidents in Andhra Pradesh.

The released press statement also highlighted that road traffic accidents increased by 4.7%, from 22,596 in 2022 to 23,652 in 2023, prompting the transport sector to seek innovative solutions.
