New Delhi:

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has called for a new law to address issues related to artificial intelligence (AI) such as deepfakes and misinformation.

The Information Technology Minister said that using artificial intelligence has many benefits in multiple fields, but the risks and dangers cannot be ignored.

“There are many, many benefits of artificial intelligence, but there are also some risks and concerns. We have to see the overall structure of today’s internet from it,” Mr. Vaishnaw said during a brief discussion on artificial intelligence at NDTV’s annual India Awards ceremony.

“The way we study artificial intelligence is, first, we need to create very good opportunities for our young people, our startups in emerging areas. Second, artificial intelligence has many applications. For example, in agriculture, “pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, weather forecasting. We definitely want to benefit from AI in these areas. ” said Mr. Vaishnaw, who also looks after the railways, communications and electronics industries.

“Thirdly, the harm that can be done to society, particularly the use of deepfakes and misinformation, must be controlled. I think we need new laws on this. We are consulting broadly with industry and stakeholders. Now we are in the midst of an election.” In the process, so I can’t say anything. But we must formulate a new law immediately after the electoral process is over,” the Union Minister told New Delhi TV.

The NDTV Indian of the Year Awards recognize those who have shown vision, embraced uniqueness and redefined the essence of what it means to be truly Indian.
