Moscow:
The Kremlin on Friday dismissed as “unacceptable” claims by French President Emmanuel Macron that Russia is trying to undermine the Paris Olympics through a disinformation campaign.
Macron said on Thursday that Moscow was trying to promote the idea that France could not host the Olympics and that the event would be risky.
“These accusations are completely unsubstantiated,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.
He said this was “absolutely unacceptable behavior” and was characteristic of Western accusations that “have never been supported by sufficient evidence.”
The West has long accused Russia of waging a disinformation campaign and seeking to sow discord, particularly in online media.
Paris has also accused Russia in recent months of trying to manipulate public opinion over the conflict in Ukraine, flooding social media and pro-Kremlin outlets in an attempt to justify its offensive.
