UN Security Council passes resolution calling for “immediate ceasefire” during Ramadan

The United Nations Security Council passed a resolution on Monday calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan. The Security Council of 15 countries adopted the resolution proposed by the 10 elected non-permanent members, with 14 countries voting in favor and no objection, while the United States, a permanent member of the Security Council, abstained from voting. “The Security Council has just approved a long-awaited resolution on Gaza calling for an immediate ceasefire and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a post by X. “This resolution must be implemented. Failure is inexcusable,” he said.
