UK’s biggest aid package to feed 275,000 people in Gaza amid warnings of ‘imminent famine’

Britain has fed 275,000 people in Gaza, with Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron calling for “continued humanitarian access” to the area’s besieged people.

More than 2,000 tonnes of food aid distributed by the UK has crossed the border and will be distributed by the World Food Program (WFP).

Lord Cameron has urged Israel to allow more aid into the war-torn territory.

“It is vital that we continue to provide aid to Gaza to end the suffering, which is why WFP’s latest aid is so important,” he said.

“The International Rescue Committee report warns of looming famine. We need continued humanitarian aid by road to get more aid.

“We continue to urge Israel to allow more crossings to open with extended opening hours, and to restore medical, water and sanitation facilities.”

The foreign secretary wants Israel to improve its ability to safely distribute aid within Gaza, such as opening land crossings in the north and issuing more visas to United Nations staff to deliver supplies.
