Ukrainian officials reported deadly Russian shelling in the eastern Donetsk region, while Russia said it thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack in an area near the Black Sea.

Donetsk Region Governor Vadim Filashkin said on Telegram that Russian shelling killed four people in the town of Siversk.

Since its invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, Russia has struck the region multiple times.

The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense system destroyed a Ukrainian drone over the Krasnodar region near Crimea.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently called on allies to help replenish Ukraine’s air defense systems to defend against Russian attacks, saying Russia was causing “heavy losses” every day.

Zelensky pointed to Israel’s defense against Iranian missile and drone attacks late Sunday, saying it demonstrated the effectiveness of modern air defense systems.

“The whole world knows what real defense is. It thinks it works,” Zelensky said in his Sunday night speech. “The world has seen that Israel is not alone in this defense – the threat in the air has also been neutralized by its allies.”

As Ukraine seeks help, Zelensky calls on allies to take “bold action.”
