UK chancellor Jeremy Hunt says £100,000 a year is ‘not a very high salary’

The chancellor claimed a salary of £100,000 a year was “not a very high salary”.

He will campaign hard to change the seat for the next general election after the boundaries are redrawn as part of a regular review.

Mr Hunt wrote on his profile: “I discussed eligibility for the government childcare concession with a woman from Godalming, which is not available if one parent earns more than £100,000.

“This is an issue I really want to address after the next election because I know it’s not [a] Wages are high in our area if you have a mortgage. “

Mr Hunter Increased threshold for childcare benefits in his latest budget.

According to the Office for National Statistics, the average salary for full-time workers in April 2023 was £34,963.

Mr Hunter represents the Godalming and Ashe constituency and previously represented the Farnham and Haslemere constituency.

The average price of a house in Godalming last year was £683,463, according to property market website Rightmove.
