The White House said on Thursday that the United States would soon impose new sanctions on Iran over its support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters: “In response to Iran’s continued support of Russia’s brutal war, we will impose additional sanctions on Iran in the coming days, and we are prepared to take further sanctions if Iran sells ballistic missiles to Russia. measure.”
“Iran will not help Russia for free. In return for Iran’s support, Russia has been providing Tehran with unprecedented defense cooperation. As a result, Iran is seeking billions of dollars worth of military equipment from Russia in total,” Kirby said.
Ukrainian troops are running short of ammunition as they battle invading Russian forces, while the U.S. Congress has held up additional funding for Kyiv.
Moscow has turned to Tehran and Pyongyang for arms for Ukraine, and Russia has significantly increased domestic weapons production.
