Two of the three people arrested by Uttar Pradesh police for planning terror activities are Pakistani nationals

Lucknow:

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Thursday arrested three men near the Nepal border for allegedly planning to “carry out terrorist activities in India”, officials said.

A statement issued by the ATS said the three, including two Pakistani nationals, were carrying fake Indian identity documents. “Based on intelligence that some terrorists intending to carry out terrorist activities in India will enter India through the Indo-Nepal border, a team of the Gorakhpur ATS team was on alert. The team was on alert while entering India through the Indo-Nepal border on Thursday. Three accused arrested. Border of India and Nepal,” the statement read.

The accused have been identified as Mohammad Altaf Butt, a resident of Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Syed Ganafar, a native of Islamabad, and Nasir Ali, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir.

The three were arrested from the India-Nepal border in Sonauli in Maharajganj district, the statement added.

Altaf Bhatt contacted Gajnafar in Kathmandu, where they obtained forged Indian documents, including an Adhaar card. They then met Ali, who was tasked with getting Butt and Ghajmafar to Kashmir via the India-Nepal border, the statement said.

“Mohammed Altaf Butt told ATS officials that he was being trained at the Hezbollah Mujahideen camp in Muzaffarabad with the support of ISI to liberate Kashmir from India. Butt was following the instructions of ISI Traveled to Jammu and Kashmir to carry out terrorist activities,” the statement said.

Officials said the ATS seized fake Indian documents, Pakistani documents and passports in their possession.

An FIR has been registered against the three persons under sections 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121A (waging or attempting to wage war or abetting the waging of war against the Government of India) of the Indian Penal Code. They said further investigation is ongoing.
