“Two Chinese citizens caught fighting for Russia”: Ukraine

Arun Jain, 09/04/2025

Kyiv, Ukraine:

President Volodimier Zelansky said on Tuesday that Ukrainian soldiers had caught two Chinese citizens fighting with the Russian army, seeking clarification from Kiev Beijing.

Moscow and Beijing have claimed their “no limits” partnership in recent years and deepened political, military and economic cooperation as a full -scale invasion in Ukraine, Russia, began in February 2022.

Zelancesi said in a post on social media, “Our army captured two Chinese citizens, who fought in the Russian army. It took place in the region of Ukraine – in the Donnetsk region.”

“We have documents of these prisoners, bank cards and individual data,” Zelansky said in a post that included a video of one of the alleged Chinese prisoners.

In the video, a person was shown wearing military fatigue with his hands, during a clear interview with an Ukrainian official, chanting a small number of words from the fighter and a small number of words in Mandarin.

At one point they are heard as the word “commander”.

A senior Ukrainian official told the AFP that the prisoners were prone to Chinese citizens, instead of being sent by Beijing, was included in signing a contract with the Russian army.

They were captured “a few days ago”, the source said, adding there could be more of them.

The source said, “Nothing is completely clear yet. When they are transported to the SBU (Ukraine’s Security Service) and at least questioned, we will understand.”

The source sent images of the ID card associated with one of the prisoners, which showed the date of his birth on 4 June 1991, and said that he belonged to the majority ethnic group – Han Ethnicity in China.

‘Clear Signal’: Zelancesi

There was no immediate response to the claims of Moscow or Beijing, but Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga said on social media that China’s charge D’Farers were called for clarification.

“Chinese citizens are fighting as part of Russia’s invasion army in Ukraine, which describes peace and credibility of Beijing as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for China’s declared stance,” Sybiga said.

China presents itself as a neutral party in the struggle and states that it is not sending fatal assistance on both sides, unlike the United States and other Western countries.

Zelansky said Kiev had evidence that “many more Chinese citizens” are fighting with Russian forces and directed his Foreign Minister to find out how China intends to respond.

He said that the two people occupied the “a clear indication” that Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to do anything, but ends the war “.

We say that capture ‘troubled’

US President Donald Trump has been emphasizing for a quick end for the war since assuming office, but his administration has failed to reach a success.

Washington played an alarm in the possession of two Chinese citizens, stating that it showed the level of support of Beijing for Russia.

“It is getting upset with Chinese soldiers,” Foremy Department spokesman Tammy Bruce told reporters.

“China is a major promoter of Russia in the war in Ukraine. China provides Russia about 80 percent of double -used items to maintain war,” he said.

The United States, which has taken China to work to send items of dual -use, since the administration of Biden, which can be used for civil or military purposes.

Ukraine is urging its Western partners to respond to the Russian deployment of thousands of North Korean soldiers in the western region of Kursk.
