Washington:
As results begin to come in from the 15 Super Tuesday states contesting the Republican presidential nomination, US television networks are projecting Donald Trump to win the primaries in Virginia and North Carolina.
The former president, who is seeking a blockbuster comeback after being ousted by Democrat Joe Biden in 2020, is expected to sweep states to secure the nomination on Tuesday.
Trump took to his “Truth Social” website to thank Virginia and North Carolina as votes were being counted in states across the country.
His challenger, former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, failed to pose a significant obstacle to Trump’s path to the nomination but refused to drop out of the race.
The RealClearPolitics poll average shows the 77-year-old Trump leading by 65 points in the primary and 2 points ahead of President Joe Biden in a one-on-one showdown in the November general election.
