Trump: If I were president, Iran would not attack Israel

By | Published | No Comments

Former US President Donald Trump has slammed Iran for retaliatory attacks on Israel, saying “if I were president, this would never happen”. He also claimed that President Joe Biden’s address to the nation about the unprecedented attack had been “recorded.”

The Republican presidential candidate posted on his Truth Social app, “Israel is under attack! This should never happen – and it wouldn’t happen if I were president!”

Trump’s comments came shortly after Iran launched a series of drones and missiles directly into Israeli territory on Sunday in retaliation for an April 1 airstrike on its consulate in Damascus that killed two commanders. Seven Revolutionary Guards and six Syrian civilians were killed. However, Israel has not yet acknowledged the airstrike.

The Israel Defense Forces claimed to have launched more than 200 missiles and drones and intercepted “the vast majority.” The military also said there were a number of “small-scale attacks” in southern Israel, with minor damage to infrastructure.

In response to the attack, President Biden said that U.S. support for Israel’s security is “ironclad” and that Washington “will stand with the Israeli people and support their defense against these threats from Iran.”

However, Donald Trump also criticized Biden’s address to the nation on the Iran attacks, saying it was “taped.”

In another post on The Truth Society, the former president criticized his successor, saying “now is not the time for taped speeches.”

Trump further claimed that “Biden’s handlers convinced him not to release a recording of his speech” after reading his Truth Society post.

“He (Biden) will try to do it live now, probably tomorrow. He doesn’t want to leave his home in Delaware and drive a Corvette!!!”

Biden was reportedly summoned to the White House on Saturday night from his residence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he had flown in for the weekend.

At the same time, the former president also reiterated his support for the Jewish people, saying that “the United States supports Israel.”

“I would say God bless the people of Israel. They are being attacked right now – this would not be happening if we were in office,” he added.
