'Trinamool protects infiltrators, opposes CAA': PM Modi

The Prime Minister criticized the TMC regime for opposing Ram Navami celebrations in the state.

Balur Ghat:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lambasted the Trinamool Congress, accusing it of “protecting” infiltrators but opposing the CAA that would grant citizenship to refugees.

Prime Minister Modi, while addressing an election rally in Baleghat, also alleged that the TMC was “renting out” West Bengal to goons and infiltrators.

The Prime Minister criticized the TMC regime for opposing Ram Navami celebrations in the state and termed the Calcutta High Court’s ruling allowing the VHP procession in Howrah as a “victory of truth”.

“This year’s Ram Navami celebrations are a bit different as Ram Lala has returned to his hometown in Ayodhya. But the TMC, like every year, is opposed to Ram Navami celebrations in the state, “He said.

The High Court on Monday gave permission to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) to hold the Ram Navami procession in Howrah city while imposing certain conditions to ensure that the event goes ahead without tension.

Speaking about Sandeshkhali, the prime minister said the entire country was “shocked” by the incidents of crime against women on the river island.

“The whole country has seen how the TMC government is trying to protect criminals there,” he said.

“Corruption and crime are rampant in the state. Even central agencies are under attack when they try to investigate these corruption cases. The TMC seems to have rented out the state to infiltrators and goons,” PM Modi said.

He also slammed the TMC government for opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to provide citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014.

“The state government here protects infiltrators but opposes the CAA that provides citizenship to legitimate refugees. Do not be misled by such activities. They resort to lies and rumors for vested political interests,” the Prime Minister said.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has vowed not to allow the implementation of CAA in West Bengal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged voters to reject the TMC because of its “misrule and corruption”.

“Under TMC, Bengal has become a haven for corrupt elements and extortionists,” he claimed.

The Prime Minister also raised the issue of “violence” against BJP workers in the state and accused the TMC of its politics of “intimidation and threats”.

“BJP workers are being targeted and killed almost every day in Bengal,” he said.

The prime minister said the ruling party in the state has become increasingly uneasy since the “Modi Assurance” came out.

“They (TMC) have denied the benefits of central schemes to the people of Bengal. However, after realizing the potential of these schemes, it has now become alarming,” he said.

“Despite TMC’s opposition, I assure you that I will work hard to develop Bengal in the next five years,” Modi asserted.
