Beef is unavailable in most Indian states due to a ban on cow slaughter.

YouTube travel blogger Dale Philip left his fans confused after trying beef biryani in Old Delhi, India.

This is because cows are considered sacred in Hinduism, the religion followed by the majority of India’s population.

However, Philip mentioned in the video’s description that beef is available since the area is home to a majority of Muslims. However, he clarified, “According to local laws, beef does not come from cows. Instead, buffalo meat is used, hence the name ‘beef’”

When one thinks of India, some typical dishes that come to mind are daal chawal (lentil curry with rice) and pav bhaji (spicy curry of mixed vegetables served with soft buttered bread).

However, one YouTuber discovered beef biryani (beef spicy rice) while visiting an ancient city in India.

Recently, Scottish travel vlogger Dale Philip took his subscribers on a trip to India in a vlog titled “India is not for beginners” on his YouTube channel.

In the vlog, Philip is exploring Old Delhi in Delhi Central, India.

Philip, 29, ended up visiting the Chor Bazaar (thieves’ market) near Jama Masjid, one of the city’s largest and most popular mosques, where he was invited by a street food vendor to try beef biryani.

He tasted the biryani and said the rice was “salty and flavourful” while the meat was “tender”.

While he enjoyed the delicacy, it came as a surprise to viewers as beef is not sold in most states in India as cow slaughter is prohibited in some areas.
