Toyota suspends shipments of 10 models due to testing violations

Tokyo:

Toyota said on Monday it would suspend shipments of 10 models using the engine due to testing violations at an affiliate.

The parent company said its subsidiary Toyota Industries Corp. did not conduct proper horsepower output testing for certification of three diesel engine models.

The automaker said the affected engines are used in models including the Land Cruiser 300 and HiAce.

The company said the suspension of shipments will affect the monthly production of about 36,500 Toyota vehicles.

Toyota Industries said in a separate statement that its staff adjusted the fuel injection volume to make the data “better looking.”

Toyota said it has since confirmed that the affected engines and vehicles meet engine performance output standards, meaning there is no need to stop using them.

Toyota Industries also said it found other violations during the certification process for engines for forklifts and other construction equipment.

Toyota Industries reported the findings to the Transportation Ministry, which said it planned to conduct its own inspections.

Toyota subsidiary Daihatsu, which makes popular small cars in Japan, had to suspend all shipments last month after revealing it had not conducted proper vehicle safety testing for decades. .
