While there is no formal dress code, wearing red or green will trigger the Purkinje effect, enhancing the visual experience for eclipse enthusiasts.

The Purkinje effect, also known as the Purkinje shift, is a phenomenon in which our eyes become more accustomed to blue-green tones in low-light conditions.

During a solar eclipse, because the moon blocks the sun’s light, the surrounding environment will gradually turn blue-green as the total eclipse approaches.

As complementary hues, red and green enhance each other’s effect when viewed together.

Therefore, wearing red and green clothing during a solar eclipse can enhance our ability to see detail and contrast in low-light conditions.

A spokesman for Solar Eyeglasses said, “The Purkinje effect during the upcoming solar eclipse will take the entire experience from just watching the sky darken to a real-life science demonstration on clothing. They also recommend avoiding neutral colors like black, grey, white or brown if you want to experience the full effect.
